3C Coding Strategies
The Standard Letter Table is the basis of all of the communication tables. This table is not institution specific. Therefore, we have created a coding strategy for the 3C's so that campus and area information is easy to sort and find in the Standard Letter Table and subsequent tables that contain description (Descr) and short description (Descrshort).
The Descr has a total of 30 characters. The first 2 characters represent the Institution:
| BL-Bloomington | KO-Kokomo |
| CO-Columbus | NW-Northwest |
| EA-East | SB-Southbend |
| IN-IUPUI | SE-Southeast |
The 3rd-5th characters represent the Area Identifier:
| ADM-Admissions | BUS-School of Business |
| EDU-Education | GRD-Graduate School/Programs |
| ITL-International | MBA-Business Program at IU Southeast |
| SCS-School of Continuting Studies |
Note: Additional area identifiers will be added in subsequent phases.
The 6th character is a hyphen.
Characters 7-30 are available for the actual description of the item. You can also imbed additional sorting strategies here so that all items of a certain type sort together (i.e. letters, brochures, bulletins).
Some examples of Standard Letter Table descriptions:
BLADM-Ltr-SAT Juniors
INADM-Lbl-Inquiry Response
KOADM-Acad Broc-History
The Descrshort is a 10-character field. It is difficult to imbed much meaning in such a small field and many times, the Descrshort is simply the first 10 characters of the actual description of the item (characters 7-16 of the Descr).
